Enola Holmes

The spoiler-free review continuously we should do it so while looking for her missing mother young Enola holmes utilizes her sleuthing abilities to outfox older sibling sherlock and help a runaway master

Directed by harry bradbeer millie bobby brown plays Enola holmes Sam Claflin is in this film henry Cavill as you have seen multiple times and a very good take on sherlock holmes different from what we've seen before the guy is awesome he has such great presence on screen but it's not his movie this time around we're dealing with the young and still trying to find herself little sister millie bobby brown who I love in stranger things one of my favourite parts about her is her on-screen presence I just think she is fantastic in that show uh but the thing about her is we haven't really seen her outside of stranger things and give maybe not even a great performance because something like Godzilla her script wasn't the best but we haven't seen her give that great movie performance and even though there were times in this film where I felt like the fourth wall breaking delivery was a tad bit too much maybe a bit overboard

That's the only criticism I have because she was awesome in this movie fantastic everything I wanted to see from her she was able to do she really captured the spirit of sherlock holmes but as Enola homes and taking us on a fun grand at times adventure with interesting action scenes the style of this movie is one that we haven't really seen in the sherlock holmes world before and it's a nice coming-of-age type of story now it is a very different story than maybe what we're expecting because we start out with a mystery of sorts but I'd say about one-third of the way through we encounter something else happening with this young lord a character

Who is trying his best to reel enola into this situation playing lord tewksbury and he provides just another charming character on top of what we already have it really comes down to their chemistry because they take up a lot of scenes where they're together on screen uh even though he does disappear for a portion of this movie but it's good so it really comes down to what you're looking for from enola homes are you looking for more of a coming of age story do you want something with a little bit of action that's in there were you upset with the fact they're kind of spinning sherlock holmes in a different direction and i can see to a degree why because the lore is really important to a lot of people but this is just a fun spin and one that knows what it is it's not really on the nose when it comes to things there are a couple things in the third act i'm like okay we could have been a bit more subtle there uh but as a whole i think the script really works it's fun it's a beat it does get a bit quirky at times not every uh joke of sorts landed with me and again and i mentioned this a bit earlier the fourth wall breaking thing

I saw somebody say is this like Deadpool in the olden times and it doesn't start out like that she's kind of talking to the camera it did feel maybe a bit awkward at first so I had to sit and let it soak in and let the story play out but once it started to play out I'm locked in it really starts with the relationship between her and her mother one that was great you can't go wrong with Helena bonham carter you just can't she is so good in this movie and again it's the chemistry uh between her and lord Tewksbury between her and her mother between her and sherlock now the brothers are interesting because sherlock kind of feels one way and the other brother sam Claflin who is unrecognizable by the way he feels a different way and they're kind of pulling on Enola trying to take care of her in this situation and she's like no I've been told this my entire life for a reason to keep me away from everyone

Who just wants to hold me down and we see that when she goes back to the school and she's well not really trying to fit in but they're trying to fit her in but that's not inola holmes she's different she's special and she proves that throughout this movie and she even begins to prove that she can uh maybe not surpass sherlock holmes in terms of what he's known for and I love that he's kind of a legend all throughout this movie but kind of keep up with him and i liked I thought it worked I thought they built that up if they wouldn't have built that up in the movie and at the end just said well you know lahome she's just better than sherlock holmes

I would have said yeah i don't know i don't know if i feel that because sherlock holmes is sherlock holmes but they do a really good job of making you believe that she can do what she does down to something as simple as and i'm not going to spoil anything specific there is a scene where she is being held under water and she's holding her breath and the villains just trying to keep her under their social drown i mean this movie gets a bit more violent than what you expect um not to the degree that i think kids shouldn't be able to watch this but if they're a bit younger yeah there's some really violent aspects so maybe keep them away but she does something that i thought was really interesting and that is act like she drowned so she let her body go limp a little bit waited till the villain said okay got her right where i want her and then she made her move you know many times i've seen that thing happen in movies uh where they just keep struggling and eventually they just kind of die i'm like why don't you just act like you're dead she did that she outsmarted the villain and then she kind of outsmarted the audience

because not a lot of people expect a character to be that smart that's a good example of what Enola holmes is as a character how well-written she is I'll also say that the story doesn't necessarily take any risks I wanted it to go in maybe a less predictable direction and they do leave some story points that are a bit too open-ended for me I'm like why was this happening the entire time they do somewhat set up for a sequel so that was not disappointing I'm excited about a sequel but I would have liked to have had more of a complete film in that regard but uh nothing too major that brought my enjoyment down so it's not the perfect film it's not the tightest movie I've seen all year and a few moments were just a bit awkward but those at the end of the day are minor criticisms

if you're asking me is this a movie that I'd recommend I would recommend this to families I'd recommend this to fans of sherlock holmes I had a good time with it enola homes is on Netflix before I give you my score thank you so much.
